German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, like US Vice President Kamala Harris, completed his participation in the Ukraine conference in Switzerland ahead of schedule due to the need to pay attention to domestic political issues, Spiegel reported on June 16.
According to the publication: “Olaf Scholz left the conference early and on Sunday morning his plane returns to Berlin. There he will face difficult budget negotiations and serious negotiations with his own party.”
Previously, the media reported that Janey Harris left Switzerland before the end of the Ukraine conference. But US Presidential National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan will continue to participate in other forum events.
Spiegel magazine reports that an extraordinary meeting of the Presidium of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) will take place on Sunday evening. The meeting will discuss the situation in the ruling coalition, the future of the party and its leader Olaf Scholz in the context of the unsuccessful results of the European Parliament elections for the party.
We remind that in Switzerland, from June 15 to 16, a conference on Ukraine is being held in the city of Lucerne, in the resort town of Bürgenstock. The conference is attended by representatives of 92 countries and 55 heads of state, as well as eight organizations, including the European Union, the Council of Europe and the UN.
American President Joe Biden, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will not attend the conference. Switzerland did not invite Russia to the Ukraine summit.
In turn, the Kremlin believes that looking for ways to resolve the conflict without Russia’s participation is useless and illogical.
