The summit’s final declaration is being finalized, although Ukraine “will not accept amendments” to the proposed text, which reportedly condemns Russia’s use of food and nuclear security as weapons of war.
This Sunday the second and last session of the international peace summit in ukraine, in which presidents and delegations from a hundred countries participate. The leaders have presented their different visions and concerns in this meeting that takes place in Swiss.
The final declaration of the summit is being finalized, although Ukraine “will not accept amendments” to the proposed text, which appears to condemn Russia’s use of food and nuclear safety as weapons of war.
This declaration emphasizes nuclear security and defends that Zaporizhia nuclear power plantshould operate under complete Ukrainian control, while calling for security for the transit of goods through the Black Sea.
The declaration, however, does not clearly address how this process, intended as the prelude to true peace negotiations with the participation of Russia, will continue. nor does it set a deadline for a next appointment.
On the nuclear issue, leaders point out that any use of nuclear energy must be safe and take into account environmental considerations, and that any threat of use of nuclear weapons It is absolutely unacceptable.
The other major issue addressed in the declaration is that of food safetydependent on uninterrupted production and supply of products, for which it is essential to guarantee the safety of commercial navigation in the Black Sea, as well as access to its ports and those of the Sea of Azov.
“Attacks on merchant ships in ports or along routes, as well as against ports or civilian port infrastructure, are unacceptable,” says the declaration, which must be officially adopted.
The third and last point of the declaration is humanitarian outreach and includes a call for the release of all prisoners of war through a full exchange operation between those held by Russia and Ukraine, respectively.
At this same point it is added that the return of children and all Ukrainian civilians who are illegally detained must be allowed.
In today’s round tables, they are trying to find solutions to reduce nuclear risk for this war, find ways to make it less impactful on food security and raise ideas in favor of prisoners of war and so that adults and children deported by Russia to the territories it controls are returned to Ukraine.
In this sense, some of the approaches that have been put on the table in the interventions of political leaders have been the nuclear riskthe food crisis in Africa due to the interruption of grain exports from Ukraine, the increase in import costs in Latin America and existential threat that for Europeans represents this war.
“We are on the right path, we are moving forward, and the fact that the summit has attracted so many leaders of South America, Africa and Asia (together with the usual European leaders of Ukraine) shows that we are in it,” highlighted the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmitro Kuleba.
