The Voyager 1 spacecraft, the farthest from Earth, resumed collecting and sending scientific data on June 16, Fox News reports.
Voyager 1’s four data collection instruments resumed operation after a computer failure in November 2023.
The NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory team again received significant information from Voyager 1 in April 2024 and recently sent a signal ordering it to resume studying its environment.
Launched in 1977, Voyager 1 sails through space, continually moving away from Earth. According to scientists, it has already reached the limits of the solar system and entered interstellar space.
Before reaching this limit, they discovered a thin ring around Jupiter and several satellites of Saturn. Its instruments are designed to collect information about plasma waves, magnetic fields and energetic particles.
Voyager 1 is currently at a distance of more than 24.14 billion kilometers from Earth. Its twin, Voyager 2, which also entered interstellar space, is at a distance of more than 19.31 billion kilometers.
