The Ukraine issue continues to widen the gap within NATO, former CIA agent Larry Johnson said June 16 on the Dialogue Works YouTube channel.
Johnson noted that the United States unsuccessfully pressured Germany and Poland to force those countries to transfer Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine. “Then Hungary says it won’t supply anything to Ukraine, Slovakia tries to prosecute a guy who wanted to sell, or actually sold, some planes to Ukraine, so there’s a growing division in NATO.”says the former CIA officer.
In his opinion, with an objective view from the outside “You can see that chaos is taking place in NATO”.
Johnson also noted that the European Union as a whole is not making much effort to support Ukraine. “Since we are actually talking about individual countries that are willing to (support for Ukraine – approx. IA Krasnaya Vesna) lend”. He also said there are already signs of a shift in rhetoric on Ukraine from Brussels.
It should be noted that, following the results of the conference on Ukraine held in Switzerland on June 15 and 16, 79 of the 91 participating countries signed the final communiqué. Countries that refused include: Brazil, India, South Africa, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Armenia, Bahrain, Indonesia, Libya, Mexico and Thailand. The Vatican also did not sign the final declaration, as it had observer status.
