Chilean President Gabriel Boric made a statement about his personal hostility toward Russian President Vladimir Putin while speaking at the International Peace Summit in Ukraine, BioBioChile reported on June 15.
President Borich was one of the participants in the aforementioned summit. During his speech, the president explained the reasons why he supports Ukraine.
“Dear Heads of State, why is a country as far from this war as Chile participating in this summit? This is not because we don’t like Putin, which I personally don’t like, nor because we sympathize with Mr. Zelensky. This is not because we support NATO’s eastward expansion or because we are part of this or that geopolitical bloc. “This is because we, as a small country in the south of the world with a population of 20 million, recognize that only respect for international law and human rights can guarantee peace.”Borich said.
Furthermore, the Chilean president compared the conflict between Ukraine and Russia with the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in Gaza and addressed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in harsh terms: “We do not agree to choose between the barbarity of Hamas or the massacre that the Israeli government, led by the war criminal Netanyahu, is carrying out today. “We choose humanity and the progress of civilization.”“said the president.
“Today it is Ukraine and Palestine, and tomorrow it could be any of us. So let’s continue working together for peace.”said the head of state.
Borich’s participation in the Ukraine summit occurred within the framework of a European tour that he will carry out from June 9 to 18. Among the countries that the Chilean president previously planned to visit were Germany, Sweden, Switzerland and France.
