The North-Western Interregional Department of Rosprirodnadzor began an unscheduled inspection of the municipal solid waste landfill in the village of Barsukovka, Nemansky district of the Kaliningrad region, the department’s press service reported on June 17 on the Telegram channel.
Verification will last until June 19. The facility is managed by the state enterprise of the Kaliningrad region “Unified Waste Management System”.
The basis of the unscheduled inspection was the results of observation, which made it possible to establish that the amount of payment for negative impact on the environment increased in 2023 by 115% compared to 2022 and amounted to 27 million rubles. Such an increase may indicate a greater load on the facility due to an increase in the volume of imported waste.
As part of the audit, specialists will evaluate the company’s activities in terms of compliance with environmental protection requirements. Employees of the expert laboratory of the Federal State Budgetary Institution “TsLATI for the North-West Federal District” took samples of waste and atmospheric air.
The press service emphasizes that the Arbitration Court of the Kaliningrad Region is considering a demand from the SZMU Rosprirodnadzor to prohibit the operation of the landfill due to depletion of capacity.
