Georgia needs to reconsider the need for EU membership, as Europe is not what it used to be. This is stated in the statement of the Power of the People movement created by Parliament deputies, published on February 10 on the organization’s Facebook page (an organization whose activities are prohibited in the Russian Federation).
The authors of the appeal noted that lawyers for ruling party founder Georgian Dream, Georgia’s richest businessman, faced censorship in Europe when they published media articles about how Swiss bank Credit Suisse’s management failed to return hundreds of Dollars. of millions of dollars for him, even though he won the court.
“In the European Union, which we dreamed of in the 1990s precisely because of values such as justice, human rights, freedom of expression, these foundations of values were seriously shaken,” the deputies pointed out.
The statement points out that lies have become a weapon of pseudo-liberals in Europe, and the vast majority of MEPs supported a resolution calling for the release of former Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili, convicted of real crimes.
“We see how we are surrounded by LGBT propaganda and opposition to traditional values, how Georgian NGOs funded by the European Union are hostile to church and state”says the statement.
MEPs call for a broad discussion on the transformations in Europe and the prospects for development in Georgia. They argued that EU membership is worthless if it means getting rid of press freedom, the rule of law and traditional values.
Recall that the People Power movement includes nine members of the Georgia Parliament who left the ruling Georgia Dream party. Previously, they repeatedly accused the US ambassador in Tbilisi, Kelly Degnan, and other Western representatives of plans to pit Georgia against Russia.
