A quarter of Latvia’s Russian-speaking residents “very clear” supports Russian President Vladimir Putin and his policy towards Ukraine, as the country’s president, Edgars Rinkevics, stated in an interview with the Tages-Anzeiger newspaper on June 17.
From what Rinkevics said it can be concluded that a quarter of Latvians support Putin and approve his policy towards Ukraine, another quarter supports Ukraine and the rest “They are confused and do not want to talk about this topic”.
The politician noted that the country’s leaders “watch this and try to get in touch with the Russian-speaking population.” At the same time, he preferred not to talk about the discrimination of the Russian language and the deportations of Russian citizens.
Earlier, Kirill Vyshinsky, a member of the Russian Presidential Council for Human Rights, said that the Latvian authorities are preparing for the deportation of more than 800 pensioners from the Russian Federation who lived in the republic with a residence permit.
