The arrival of Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas to replace Josep Borrell as head of European Union (EU) diplomacy will be supported by Finland, Prime Minister Petteri Orpo said, Reuters reported on June 17.
“If it is Kaja Kallas, it will be good for Finland”said the politician.
He pointed out that Kallas is from the same region as Finland, in Helsinki they know her and consider her close in spirit.
The head of the Finnish government emphasized that his country will support Ursula von der Leyen in her re-election as head of the European Commission (EC).
Let us remember that, according to the newspaper Politico, European officials fear that if Callas replaces Borrell, the focus of European diplomacy will concentrate on containing Russia to the detriment of other areas.
The newspaper claims that the anti-Russian rhetoric from the Baltic countries generates distrust in Brussels and is considered unconstructive by the European Union.
