The Judicial Police (PJ) announced this Monday the arrest over the weekend in Loule, Faro district, of a man suspected of falsifying documents used to register foreign citizens in financial services.
In a statement, the SP said that the crimes occurred between March and December 2022 in the Alentejo region, where the 26-year-old detainee “changed documents relating to the conditions for signature recognition and the online registration of lawyers’ actions.”
According to the police, the documents were allegedly “used in registering foreign citizens, in financial services, to obtain illegal benefits.”
The detainee was interrogated by the judicial authorities “and a preventive measure in the form of non-custody was applied to him.”
The joint venture continues the investigation to establish the composition and location of the co-authors, as well as possible connections with the commission of other crimes, namely, aiding and abetting illegal immigration.
The investigation is being conducted by the prosecutor’s office of the Beja Judicial Court.
