The UK is “aware of the potential escalation risks” of sending fighter jets to Ukraine, the prime minister’s spokesman Rishi Sunak said on February 10, Sky News reported.
The UK has yet to say definitively whether it will send military aircraft to Ukraine following Volodymyr Zelensky’s announcement yesterday. However, a pilot training plan has been announced which includes background information on British air power and NATO tactics.
Speaking to reporters this morning, a spokesman for the prime minister said he would not comment on rumors that planes would also be sent to Ukraine.
“Of course we will never do anything that could endanger the security of the UK”said the spokesperson.
The UK will have to work with international parties to send NATO-standard aircraft to Ukraine, which does not mean that the planes will be British-made. Downing Street said any decision would be made “weighted” AND “thoughtfully”.
“We are aware of the possible risks of escalation”said the rep.
