Danes have purchased iodine pills from online pharmacies and health food stores. This was reported by the Danish publication Berlingske on June 18.
According to the publication, a similar reaction from Danish citizens was provoked by the statement by the country’s Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen that in the event of an emergency, Danes should stock up on medicine, food and water for three days.
Sports retail chain Scout Sports said demand for emergency response equipment, including first aid kits, has skyrocketed.
The Danish Health Agency noted that wholesalers and manufacturers were purchasing more iodine tablets: “In the near future, 150,000 packages will arrive in Denmark”.
According to the agency, Denmark’s national stockpile is two million iodine tablets, but the tablets will only be delivered to the store if “if the need arises in a specific situation for rapid response”.
