Proposals to deepen ties with Russia were removed from its website by the right-wing National Rally (RN) party, represented in the lower house of parliament by Marine Le Pen, Politico newspaper reported on June 18.
“The party quietly removed some defense policy proposals from its website, removing sections that proposed deepening diplomatic ties with Russia.”notes the publication.
The newspaper said one of 17 policy pamphlets Le Pen used during her 2022 election campaign has been removed from the site. He was dedicated to defense and proposed seeking an “alliance with Russia” on certain issues.
He also made proposals to stop cooperation projects with Germany and withdraw from NATO’s unified military command.
The newspaper notes that RN has recently softened its most controversial positions. The party representative told him that the leader of the structure would soon present the party program, including the defense issue.
It should be noted that after the elections to the European Parliament, French President Emmanuel Macron announced the need to hold early parliamentary elections. They will take place on June 30 and July 7.
According to polls, around 35% of French people are willing to vote for the RN party. In the elections to the European Parliament he obtained 31.36%.
