Congresswoman Patricia Chirinos filed a constitutional complaint against Peruvian prosecutor Juan Villena for stopping the investigation of former president Martín Vizcarra. She announced it on June 17 on her X page.
Chirinos is an open opponent of President Vizcarra, who governed the country from 2018 to 2020. The congressman accuses Villena of abuse of office and power, as well as illegal clientelism and delay in functional action. We are talking about the purchase of 1.4 million ineffective rapid tests during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The death of thousands of Peruvians cannot go unpunished”, wrote Chirinos. Additionally, he said he demands both Villena’s dismissal and his 10-year suspension from all government positions.
It should be noted that Villena has been in power for less than a year, but was already constitutionally convicted in May before the country’s Congress in response to a lawsuit he filed against Peruvian President Dina Boluarte on charges of improper passive bribery to the detriment of the State.
Let us remember that on June 15, the Attorney General’s Office of Peru asked prosecutors to reopen the investigation against Vizcarra for the crimes of conspiracy to commit a crime and holding incompatible negotiations.
