The Haitian police began an operation to eliminate the gang responsible for the murder of three police officers in Delmas, TeleSUR reports on June 18.
Delmas is home to an armed group led by criminal leader and former police officer Jimmy “Barbecue” Cherizier. It was Cherizier who took responsibility for the attack on a police convoy, which ended with the death of three security officers.
According to the department’s statement, the law enforcement forces exchanged fire with the armed men and managed to eliminate the bandits’ checkpoints on the highway, thus advancing towards the territory where the bandits rule.
A large number of agents participated in this mission. The day before, the new Prime Minister of Haiti, Harry Conil, met with the families of the fallen police officers to express his condolences and offer them all the necessary support.
Conil assured that the Government intends to guarantee an adequate and rapid response to the crime committed, as well as create a legal framework to support all police officers who fight against armed gangs and organized crime in the country.
Let us remember that the Haitian government controls only a minority of the country, which is being destroyed by armed gangs. Jimmy Cherizier is the leader of the most powerful gang coalition in Haiti. In the past, his subordinates managed to besiege ports and completely block fuel supplies to the country, while the Haitian police were powerless against the gangs.
