On Monday, the Portuguese Air Force assisted in the rescue of two people who were on a ship without communications, power or propulsion, more than 100 kilometers from Porto Santo.
Heavy seas called into question the success of the operation, which meant mobilizing an Air Force C-295M aircraft to conduct a search and visual reconnaissance of the vessel near its last known location. At the same time, two merchant ships sailing nearby were sent to assist the vessel as soon as it was found.
“Rough sea conditions and darkness of day made it difficult to control and position the two vessels, making the rescue operation extremely difficult but successful, with two people found at 10:40 p.m.,” Air explains. Force.
