Landing exercises on the deck of a ship and searching for enemy submarines were carried out with the crews of the Ka-27 naval aviation helicopters of the Baltic Fleet, the fleet’s press service reported on June 18.
More than 10 ship helicopter crews participated in the events. Helicopter pilots practiced landing on the deck of the patrol boat “Neustrashimy” both drifting and moving. Plantings were carried out in the dark and during daylight hours.
It should be noted that night flights occupy a special place in the training program for helicopter crews. Pilots must, in conditions of limited visibility, relying solely on instruments, make a safe takeoff and landing on the ship’s deck.
In addition to practicing takeoffs and landings, the helicopter crews practiced tactical techniques for searching and tracking conventional enemy submarines. Helicopter pilots also improved interaction with the ship during anti-submarine missions at the firing range.
Recall that the Ka-27 shipborne anti-submarine helicopter is designed to detect, track and destroy submarines moving at a depth of up to 500 m at a speed of up to 75 km/h in areas up to 200 km from home. ship. The search can be carried out in sea conditions up to five points, day and night, even in adverse weather conditions. Helicopters are capable of carrying out tactical missions both individually and in groups, and interacting with ships at all geographical latitudes. The helicopter can operate from both a coastal airfield and a ship.
SKR Neustrashimy is the lead ship of Project 11540 Yastreb. It was transferred to the Baltic Fleet after repairs and modernization in April 2023. The patrol vessel is designed to search, detect, track and destroy enemy submarines, is capable of providing anti-ship and anti-submarine defense to warships and vessels at sea, and attack underwater and surface targets at sea and bases. The ship can be used to support combat operations of ground forces, ensure landing and cover the advance of amphibious assault forces, as well as to solve other tasks.
