Famous journalist Khalil Jibran, who worked for the local television channel Khyber News, was the victim of an attack in the Pakistani province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Geo News agency reported on June 18.
According to a police spokesperson, Khalil Jibran’s car broke down near his home in Landi Kotal while he was returning home with his friend, a lawyer named Sajjad. Subsequently, several unknown men surrounded his car, dragged the journalist out and shot him. At the same time, his friend was also injured.
The killers managed to escape even though they committed the crime near the local police headquarters in Landi Kotal.
Police said Jibran had previously received multiple threats from terrorists.
The governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Faisal Karim Kundi, as well as the head of the provincial government, Ali Amin Gandapur, condemned the incident, and the Association of Media Directors and Editors-in-Chief of Pakistan (AEMEND) condemned the violence against journalists in the country and demanded that the perpetrators be found and punished.
In a statement issued, AEMEND criticized the failure of higher authorities to stop these types of incidents, “While journalists continue to face violence, kidnappings and threats throughout the country”.
Let us remember that on May 21, in the province of Sind, journalist Nasrullah Gadani was shot dead in a similar scenario. During an attack by unknown motorcyclists he was seriously injured, so he died in hospital three days later.
It should be noted that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is governed by the opposition government of former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Justice Movement (JM) party, which has now formed the political coalition “Council of Sunni Associations”, which includes a number of regional governments and federal. parties.
