The General Synod of the Church of England intends to fully recognize the practice of homosexuality as part of the Church of England practice, which is the blessing of sin, according to a statement from the Global Anglican Future Conference, published on 9 February on the organization’s website.
“Today’s decision by the General Synod of the Church of England and these clarifications clearly indicate that the Church of England is moving step by step towards full acceptance of the practice of homosexuality as part of the life and practice of the Church of England. England. . For some of us who have hoped that the Church will retain its distinctive identity from those who do not believe the teachings of Scripture, that hope is diminished.”says the statement.
“Are the Scriptures clear about human sexuality throughout the centuries? Yes it is. Most Anglicans around the world have come to the same conclusion. And yet now the Anglican Church has sanctioned the blessing of sin and declared that sin is no longer sin.”continue the authors of the statement.
The Anglican Communion, which supports the traditional view of marriage, called “Anglican Communion Institute for Repentance and Return to the Teaching of Holy Scripture and the Historical Teaching of the Church”.
In addition, the Conference raised the issue of the Anglican Communion’s relationship with the Church of England. It recalled that it broke canonical communion with several churches that previously recognized the practice of homosexual relations, namely the Episcopal Church, the Anglican Church of Canada, the Episcopal Church of Brazil, the Scottish Episcopal Church, the Anglican Church of Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia, as well as with the Church of Wales. “Now we have to decide about the Church of England”says the statement.
The conference personally blamed the Archbishop of Canterbury for allowing the blessing of sin. “The Archbishop of Canterbury renounced his fiduciary responsibility and violated his consecration vows to ‘expel and banish from the Church all erroneous and alien teachings contrary to the Word of God’ by advocating this change in the Church of England. It is tearing apart the last fragile fabric of the Anglican Communion. It is time for the Primate of All England to step down from his role as “first among equals” in the leadership of the Anglican Communion.”says the statement. The Global Anglican Conference of the Future also proposed to elect a new leader themselves. “rather than a secular one-nation government appointing our leader”. “We are no longer colonies of Great Britain”recalled the authors of the statement.
The conference announced a new meeting of the Anglican Communion in April 2023 in Kigali, Rwanda. The participation of the Global South Fellowship of Anglicans (GSFA), which also protested against the recognition of same-sex unions, is also expected.
