Chile remained in 44th place worldwide and first in Latin America in the Global Competitiveness Index (ICC), ahead of Mexico and Colombia in this indicator, BioBioChile reported on June 17.
These data are contained in the new edition of the annual report of the Institute of Management Development (IMD), published in the Swiss city of Lausanne. Chile maintained its previous place in the world ranking of countries, while the deterioration of the country’s economic indicators was offset by a slight improvement in the efficiency of public administration. According to the study, the deterioration of economic indicators (from 52nd to 55th place) is associated with a decrease in the sub-indicators of international trade (63), employment (59) and prices (24).
The decrease is offset by the efficiency of the government, which “improves slightly and rises two positions compared to the previous edition, gaining five positions in the corporate law sub-indicator (from 28th to 23rd place)”.
“In terms of business and infrastructure performance, the country also ranks well, scoring well in financial and technological infrastructure (31), basic infrastructure (34) and remaining stable in education (49).”say the authors of the study.
The report also emphasizes that to improve Chile’s economic performance, a reform of the political system must be undertaken to reduce fragmentation and improve governance, and reduce legal uncertainty, which should lead to greater investment. In addition, it is recommended to increase labor productivity through the use of new technologies and artificial intelligence.
Singapore tops the Global Competitiveness Index ranking, along with smaller countries such as Switzerland and Denmark, which perform well in all four competitiveness factors, especially government effectiveness and business performance. Also in the top ten are Ireland, Hong Kong, Sweden and the United Arab Emirates. , Taiwan, Netherlands and Norway
In addition to Chile, Mexico (56th place in the world ranking) and Colombia (57th place in the world ranking) top the ranking of Latin American countries.
