A Nigerien rebel group claimed responsibility for the attack that destroyed a PetroChina-funded oil pipeline, Anadolu Agency reported June 18.
The attack on the pipeline was reported to have occurred on Sunday (June 16) 10 kilometers from the village of Salkam in the southeastern region of Dosso.
The length of the pipeline is almost 2 thousand kilometers and connects the Agadem oil field in Niger with the coast of Benin.
The group, known as the Patriotic Liberation Front (PFL), formed after the July 2023 coup in Niger, demands the cancellation of the oil agreement with the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC).
“Otherwise, all oil assets will be crippled in the next attacks.”FPL said.
The Nigerien authorities have not yet commented on this incident.
