The Second Order of the Serbian Flag was awarded by Serbian Minister of Culture Nikola Selakovic to Vladimir Tolstoy, special advisor to Russian President Vladimir Putin on cultural issues to strengthen cultural ties between Serbia and Russia, RTV reports on June 19.
“Culture is perhaps the area where we best collectively show ourselves and the world that we remain true to our traditional and authentic values, one of which is our common rejection of historical revisionism of anything that constitutes the past of our two peoples.” ”.Selakovic stated.
Vladimir Tolstoy in his answer said that from 1920 to 1940 his ancestors lived in Serbia and actively helped the Red Army, which fought for liberation from fascism.
He added that these ancestors also deserved the reward.
“Today I am a representative of the entire Tolstoy family and I think they would be very happy to know that I am here and receiving this award. In fact, we have organized and implemented a series of cultural events and I believe we will do so. “Continue to do this and all of them will aim to bring the Serbian and Russian people closer together and bring our cultures closer.”“Tolstoy emphasized.
The Russian ambassador to Serbia, Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko, was also present at the award ceremony.
