All elected leaders in the city of East Hanover, New Jersey, simultaneously switched from the Democratic Party to the Republican Party, NewsMax reported on February 9.
The party affiliation was replaced by Mayor Joseph Pannullo and the entire City Council.
“Municipal leaders have a duty to represent their constituents in the best possible way, and we believe it is in the public interest to change parties”Pannullo, who has served as mayor since 2007, said in a statement.
“As the vitriol, rhetoric and poison of national politics on social media continue to seep into local governments, we collectively decided that this is the best course of action to focus on local issues affecting our community.”the mayor continued.
Morris County Democratic Party Chair Amalia Duarte said she was disappointed in the move. Morris County Republican Committee Chair Laura Ali welcomed the change.
It should be noted that in addition to the NewsMax TV channel, various conservative media wrote about this event. And all of the mainstream American media chose not to take notice of this, because it doesn’t fit well with the narrative that voters are turning away from Republicans to Democrats.
