The Council of Europe’s Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI) warned this Thursday of a rise in anti-Semitism and anti-Islamism in Europe due to the conflict in the Gaza Strip.
In a report published this Thursday on ECRI’s biggest concerns in 2023, the Council of Europe organization defends “the fight against the rise of anti-Semitism in Europe as a result of the current conflict in the Middle East” and also calls on governments to take “decisive action.” action against racism and anti-Muslim discrimination across the continent.”
In its analysis for 2023, ECRI also recalls the social pressures caused by “people displaced by war and other emergencies,” such as Ukrainian refugees.
