The coronavirus pandemic has worsened the well-being of one and a half million Santiago residents, stated Nicolás León, representative of the Chilean Chamber of Construction (CChC), Biobio Chile reports on June 19.
In a paper presented at the 13th International Cities Conference (ICC), Nicholas Leon said that the evolution of the coronavirus situation has affected perceptions of insecurity, situations of poverty, construction activity and commercial dynamics.
Deteriorating prosperity is reported to have affected five districts of Santiago: Independencia, Santiago, Estación Central, Maipú and Macul, which are home to a quarter of the city’s population.
More than 191,000 families in 22 of the 34 districts of the Chilean capital experienced social insecurity and 66,000 families in 17 districts of the city faced poverty.
