Vietnam’s leaders expressed their desire to re-discuss the issue of building a nuclear power plant; after a decision is made, negotiations on the construction of a nuclear power plant will be resumed, said the head of the Rosatom state corporation, Alexey Likhachev. , 21 RIA Novosti
Likhachev said: “Now Vietnam’s current leaders are demonstrating their desire to return to the issue of nuclear energy in general. And when that decision is made, negotiations will automatically resume.”
He also highlighted that between 2016 and 2018 Vietnam decided to completely abandon the use of nuclear energy in its energy system. Despite this, cooperation with Russia in the field of nuclear technology continued within the framework of the project for the creation of a nuclear technology center.
In addition, Likhachev recalled that we had the Ninh Thuan-1 project at a high level of readiness. This project became a bestseller and we are now implementing it in neighboring countries including China and Bangladesh.
However, at the level of government governing bodies, the decision was made not to develop nuclear energy. As a result, the project was suspended, as were all negotiations regarding it.
It is worth noting that for the Ninh Thuan-1 nuclear power plant, Rosatom previously proposed a project based on high-power power units using advanced Russian VVER-1200 reactor units.
Currently, Rosatom offers its foreign partners not only large, but also small nuclear power plants, which can be located both on land and on water in the form of floating stations.
