A video circulating on social media showing a man being restrained by PNP soldiers on Avenida Egas Moniz in Penafiel is causing outrage among people who say the PNP soldier was abusive.
However, the National Republican Guard explained that the situation occurred as part of a road check at 20:40 on Wednesday.
According to the Republican National Guard, the driver was approached by soldiers, “he took an aggressive position and refused to identify himself.” It also states that the man was informed that he would be committing a crime of insubordination, at which point he “began to aggressively insult the soldier, who immediately requested patrol reinforcements.”
A total of two men, aged 62 and 25, were arrested. Viewing the video circulating on social media as an aggressive approach by the military, the PNP explains that “through video, one can ascertain resistance from a citizen disobeying the orders of the military and the same.” demonstrates the correct action using modern police techniques, indicating only the intent to control the person.”
