The South Korean army said this Friday that it fired warning shots after North Korean soldiers briefly crossed the border between the two countries on Thursday, the third such incursion this month.
“Several North Korean soldiers who were working inside the demilitarized zone on the central front line crossed the military demarcation line. After warnings and warning shots from our army, the North Korean soldiers retreated to the North,” the South Korean general said. Staff added that the incident occurred around 11:00 (3:00 Lisbon time) on Thursday.
The General Staff said the action “appears to have been accidental” as the soldiers continued to work into the evening and then returned to North Korea, South Korea’s Yonhap news agency reported.
