The portrait of DPRK founder and first leader Kim Il Sung was presented to his grandson, current leader Kim Jong In, by Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to photos published June 21 by the Korean Central News Agency.
Photographs of the gifts show a portrait of North Korea’s young founder and a miniature painted writing set from Palekh depicting temples. Photographers also captured a large tea set and a gold-trimmed admiral’s dagger.
The Russian President’s aide, Yuri Ushakov, previously said that the Head of State gave Putin a tea set and a dagger. He also said that Putin gave the North Korean leader a Russian Aurus, which is already the second, first-class.
Ushakov also said that among the gifts from the North Korean side were images of Putin, including busts.
Recall that the visit of the Russian leader to the DPRK took place on June 18 and 19. This was his first visit to this country since 2000. During Putin’s meeting, the countries’ leaders signed the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement.
According to NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, Putin’s trip to North Korea demonstrates that the security issue is global in nature, not regional.
