Celeste Arantes, Pele’s mother, dies

Celeste Arantes, Pelé’s mother, died this Friday at the age of 101. According to the Brazilian press, the mother of the ill-fated Brazilian footballer, who died on December 29, 2022, had been in the hospital for more than a week, and the cause that led to her death still remains unknown.

A month before his death, Pele dedicated a few words to his mother as he celebrated her 100th birthday: “Since childhood, she taught me the value of love and peace. Besides Pele, Celeste Arantes had two more children: Jair, who died in 2020, and Maria Lucia, who was currently responsible for caring for her mother.
