
X-Bow Systems has announced the development of solid rocket motors for the Standard missile, the US Navy’s primary anti-aircraft missile for air defense. This was reported by the company’s press service on June 21.
The company is working on two contracts for the development of solid motors for the Mk 72 booster of the Standard rocket, as well as an engine for the second stage of the Mk 104. The total value of the contracts is 7.3 million dollars (640 million rubles).
“X-Bow Systems to develop new solid rocket motor designs for the Mk 72 and Mk 104”X-Bow CEO Jason Hundley said in a statement.
According to Hundley, X-Bow supplies solid rocket motors in strategic and tactical sizes. “to numerous military and commercial customers”.
Note that in recent months, the US Navy has also announced similar contracts with Ursa Major and Anduril to develop solid rocket motors in an attempt to diversify the solid rocket motor supply base for various variants of the Standard missile.
The ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East have strained existing production capacity, especially for solid tactical rocket motors, Pentagon officials said. The US Department of Defense has said it wants to work with new commercial companies that offer new technologies and manufacturing processes.
