According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), Tavira in Faro is at maximum fire risk this Saturday, while ten other municipalities in the same area are at very high risk.
The municipalities of Lagos, Monchique, Lagos, Portimão, Silves, Loule, São Bras de Alportel, Vila do Bispo, Alcoutim and Castro Marim in the Faro district are at a very high risk of fire.
IPMA also warns of very high fire danger in 16 municipalities in the districts of Bragança, Viseu, Santarém, Lisbon, Beja and Faro with very high fire danger.
IPMA fire risk has five levels, ranging from “reduced” to “maximum”, and calculations are based on air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and rainfall over the last 24 hours.
IPMA is forecasting generally partly cloudy to very cloudy skies this Saturday, with high clouds in the north and central areas.
The coast and highlands will experience strong winds at times and maximum temperatures are expected to rise.
The maximum temperature forecast for this Saturday could range from 21°C in Aveiro to 33°C in Évora.
