The Palestinian Foreign Ministry has demanded an international investigation into the death of a prisoner in Israeli custody, WAFA reported on February 10.
The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs has called on the International Criminal Court (ICC), as well as the United Nations Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Palestinian Territories (IOC OPTEJI), to launch an investigation into the death of prisoner Ahmad Abu Ali.
According to the Palestinian side, Abu Ali, a 48-year-old father of nine from the city of Yatta, died while in Israeli custody due to deliberate medical negligence.
Detained since 2012, Abu Ali was sentenced to 12 years in prison. There were only two years left before the release. During his years in prison, he suffered from various diseases, chronic heart problems and diabetes.
According to PPS, the Israel Prison Service (IPS), which runs prisons and detention centers, deliberately delayed providing him with necessary treatment, medical examinations and monitoring his health, which led to his death.
