Twelve emergency departments in obstetrics and paediatrics will be closed in the country this Sunday, the day when the largest number of these services are closed, according to the timetable until next Thursday published by the Ministry of Health.
According to a map published on the National Health Service portal, in addition to the 12 closed emergency departments (seven obstetrics and five paediatrics), this Sunday they will be partially open or reserved only for patients referred by CODU and INEM, a further nine while they are in total 125 of these services will be open 24 hours a day on mainland Portugal.
Lisbon and Vale do Tejo remain the region where the largest number of emergency services are limited or closed until next Thursday, with Alentejo being the only region in the country where these services are fully open during this period, the large-scale map shows.
In the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region, the obstetric and pediatric emergency departments in the hospitals of São Bernardo (Setúbal), Santarem, García de Orta (Almada), Beatriz Angelo (Lures), Nossa Senhora do will be closed for the next few days -Rosario (Arco Ribeirinho) and Rainha Santa Isabel (Torres Novas).
In the case of Santa Maria Hospital, the map indicates that it is temporarily closed due to renovations to the emergency obstetrics department.
At the Amadora Sintra and San Francisco Xavier hospitals, on most days next week, the obstetric and pediatric emergency departments will be reserved only for internal emergencies and cases referred by CODU and INEM, as well as through SNS 24.
In the center, in addition to the overnight closure of the pediatric emergency department at the Hospital de Viseu, the map indicates the closure this Sunday of the obstetrics and pediatric emergency departments at the Hospital de Santo André in Leiria.
In Alentejo, according to service scheduling plans, all emergency departments will remain open until Thursday, while in the Algarve, restrictions are expected in the emergency obstetric department at Faro Hospital on Friday and Saturday.
In the north, emergency services will struggle with pediatric care at Hospital de Chaves throughout the week, and at Hospital da Póvoa do Varzim this Sunday and Monday.
According to the Ministry of Health, this format, which can be updated daily, was designed for the “immediate and expeditious dissemination” of schedules of available emergency services, even if due to “insurmountable restrictions” these data may undergo punctual changes.
