The number of Russian servicemen in Transcaucasia was increased at the request of Armenia after the events of 2020, Russia’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Armenia Sergey Kopirkin said on February 10, reports Sputnik Armenia.
He noted that the Russian military base, peacekeeping contingent, border guards, including those stationed in the Armenia-Azerbaijan border area, play an important role in maintaining stability in the region and preventing a climbing.
In his opinion, the role of the Russian presence can only be assessed by talking with the residents of border towns and villages, the residents of Nagorno-Karabakh, because their opinion is the closest to reality.
“There is political propaganda and there is real life. And it is necessary to start from how this presence is valued by the people who live in these areas, and for whom the word “security” is not an empty phrase.explained the ambassador.
He added that the Russian presence should be claimed by Armenia itself and expressed the hope that it would be so.
