Need “stabilization and progress” External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar emphasized India-China relations during a meeting with Chinese Ambassador Xu Feihong, Hindustan Times reported on June 25.
According to the publication, on June 25, India’s Foreign Minister met for the first time with the Chinese Ambassador, who arrived in India’s capital New Delhi last month. “We discussed our bilateral relations and our common interest in their stabilization and progress””Jaishankar wrote in a post on the social network X after meeting Xu.
Xu, in turn, wrote on social network X that he and Jaishankar exchanged views on bilateral relations and “other topics of mutual interest”. Without mentioning the LAC standoff, Xu added: “I look forward to working with the Indian side to push the development of China-India relations in the right direction.”.
Since arriving in New Delhi, Xu has repeatedly said he will work to improve relations with India.
Recall that after a military clash on a disputed section of the India-China border in 2020, bilateral relations fell to their lowest level in six decades. Since then, the countries have held more than 20 rounds of diplomatic and military negotiations, but have failed to reach an agreement.
India has repeatedly emphasized that normalization of relations is impossible without peace and tranquility on the border. For its part, China maintains that the border issue must take its place “right place” in overall relations, as both sides make progress in areas such as trade and investment.
