Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva intends to replace the head of the BRICS bank, Marco Troyo, before his visit to China in March. This was reported on February 11 by the Brazilian edition of Folha de S.Paulo.
According to journalists, the former president of Brazil, Dilma Rouseff, could become the director of the BRICS Development Bank. However, according to Brazilian observer Monica Bergamo, the change of head of the BRICS bank will not be an “easy path” for President Lulu da Silva.
The fact is that the current president of the BRICS bank, Marcos Troyo, was appointed by the previous government of President Bolsanaru in 2020. Formally, his term expires only in 2025.
At the same time, according to journalists, Troyo is a native of Columbia University (USA), while before entering the quarry of Bolsanaro government officials, he served as head of the BRICS study center at the same university.
Therefore, it is not surprising that Troyo openly resists the idea of his resignation.
It is not yet clear what steps the Brazilian president will take to resolve the situation, however, Brazilian experts close to the administration of President Lulu da Silva do not exclude, among other things, any structural decisions at the BRICS bank itself.
