Poland is ready to accept the treatment of former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said on February 11, Polskie novosti reported.
The issue of the treatment of Saakashvili detained in Georgia, who is now in a civilian clinic for treatment, was discussed at a meeting of the European Council, Moravetsky said. The main thesis of the Polish side is that Saakashvili’s health may be harmed during detention.
“Poland has presented this initiative, and I have spoken with many prime ministers on this issue: to propose to the Georgian government that Mikheil Saakashvili be treated in Poland. We fear the worst will happen to him in Georgia.”Morawiecki said.
The Prime Minister of Poland openly stated that the EU’s decision to admit Georgia to membership depends on how the Georgian authorities treat this request and the fate of Saakashvili as a whole. The application will be prepared by the diplomatic services of several European countries.
“If Georgia wants to receive a positive response to its European aspirations, it must also take seriously this call, which is already being formulated by the diplomatic services of the Council”Morawiecki said.
