Kenyan President William Ruto announced this Wednesday the withdrawal of the budget bill, which included increases and new taxes, sparking violent protests with deadly consequences in the country.
“Having listened carefully to the Kenyan people who have said loud and clear that they want nothing to do with this Finance Bill 2024, I bow my head and will not accept the Finance Bill 2024, which will therefore be withdrawn,” William Ruto . said this Wednesday in a speech after a day of strong protests against the law, which, according to the Kenya National Human Rights Commission, killed 22 people.
“After the approval of the bill, there was a widespread expression of dissatisfaction with the adopted law in the country, which, unfortunately, led to human casualties and the destruction of property,” the president added.
