One person was killed and nine others injured when a cable car carrying 10 people fell from a station in the Colombian city of Medellin, authorities said on June 27, the BBC reports.
Dozens of people were reportedly trapped in huts detained between stations.
The Metrocable cable car network, inaugurated in 2004, was the first public transportation network of its type in Medellín.
Carlos Quintero, head of Medellín’s disaster response agency, said one cabin stopped entering the station and was hit by the next cabin, which then dislodged and fell.
The metro cable consists of six lines and 20 stations. It connects low-income areas of the city, located on steep hills, with the center, reducing crime rates.
Metrocable manager Tomás Elejalde told reporters that the accident was the worst since the system was launched.
