The leader of the far right accuses the far left of plotting unrest if the National Union wins. Marine Le Pen has demanded that everyone, including the president, respect the results. The concerns come a day after the first debate between the main candidates in the election, Gabriel Attal of Renascensa, Jordan Bardella of the National Union and Manuel Bompard of France Insubmission. Immigration was the topic that caused the most tension. Bardella, the far-right candidate who is widely seen as the favourite to win, has said he wants to end automatic citizenship for those born in France and prevent immigrants who have yet to be regularised from accessing state healthcare.
Gabriel Attal
“I could say that I will raise the minimum wage to 1,600 euros, but I will not lie to the French and make them believe in the Moon.”
Jordan Bardella
“If I become prime minister, I will be from France, which will sharply reduce the migration flow. Thousands of French people do not recognize modern France.”
Manuel Bompard
“Contrary to what they say, most immigrants in France bring money into the country, OECD data shows.”
