Bolivian Interior Minister Eduardo del Castillo has assured that now-sacked army chief Juan José Zúñiga intends to “take command” of the country during a military operation that “is not an exercise.”
Del Castillo, who publicly introduced Zúñiga to the press after his arrest, called the military leader a criminal who sought to “overthrow the democratically elected government,” referring to Bolivian President Luis Arce.
“Zuniga intended to take command of our country, to become captain general of the armed forces,” the minister said on Wednesday, who also accused former navy chief Vice Admiral Juan Arnez of collaborating and participating in the operation.
