Denmark is to introduce a law restricting the use of foreign flags on its territory, the Kingdom’s Minister of Justice, Peter Hammelgaard, announced on June 27, RTÉ reports.
According to the minister, the Danish flag “It is the most important national symbol”Which means that “The flags of other countries “cannot fly freely”.
He explained that foreign flags will not be banned and can be used for demonstrations, sports and other events. The law also does not apply to the flags of Nordic countries, Greenland, the Faroe Islands, Germany and international organisations.
The restrictions will come into force on January 1, 2025, following a vote in the Danish Parliament.
Recall that the debate on this issue has erupted since a lawsuit was filed against a Dane who hung an American flag in his garden.
