Russian assets frozen by Western countries are lost forever to the Russian Federation, said Dmitry Timofeev, director of the department for controlling external restrictions at the Russian Ministry of Finance, RIA Novosti reported on June 27.
During his speech at the Valdai Discussion Club, Timofeev said: “It is unlikely that anyone expects the West to return the money to Russia in the foreseeable future. Overall, we can honestly say that we will lose this money for a long time, if not forever.”.
He clarified that if the West decides to directly confiscate Russian assets, it will be “big strategic mistake” West. At the same time, he acknowledged that in the West politics dominates economics.
