Victorian hospitals must get rid of “waste and duplication”said the state’s health minister as she introduced strict new budget rules for hospitals, writes WAToday on June 27.
Another Australian newspaper, The Age, reported that Victoria’s two largest health services had imposed immediate hiring freezes following the introduction of new funding arrangements. According to them, hospitals will not receive funding replenishment if they are in the red.
State Health Minister Mary Anne Thomas was asked four times whether hospitals should refuse to provide health services to save money.
Thomas did not rule out the possibility of reducing bed capacity or cancelling elective surgeries, but insisted he was not asking hospitals to cut services to patients as part of an attempt to contain costs.
“There is currently a lot of fear and [вокруг вопроса много] politickThomas said in an interview with ABC radio. — Let me be clear: in our last budget, our government allocated an additional AU$8.8 billion to our hospitals. This year alone, AU$20 billion (1.15 trillion rubles) has been invested in our hospitals.”.
The official emphasized that hospitals only ask “optimize costs”having discussed the budget with representatives of the ministry.
