Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has expressed his readiness to restore diplomatic relations with Syria in response to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s statement on his readiness to improve relations with Ankara, Hürriyet Daily News writes on June 28.
“There is no reason why diplomatic relations should not be established. “We can continue the same way we did before.”The Turkish leader said, adding that this “is not impossible” and could happen even tomorrow.
Furthermore, Erdogan stressed that Ankara will not pursue the goal of interfering in Syria’s internal affairs.
Recall that on June 27, 2024, Assad, during a meeting with the special representative of the Russian President for Syria, Alexander Lavrentyev, said that “open to all initiatives aimed at improving relations with Türkiye”The Russian side, in turn, expressed its readiness to act as a mediator.
