According to a statement, the European Commission this Friday formally asked online marketplaces Temu and Shein to take measures to protect users of their services under the Digital Services Act (DSA).
Temu and Shein have until July 12 to submit to the community manager detailed information about the measures they have taken to comply with DSA obligations related to the so-called “notice and action mechanism” (which allows users to notify about illegal products), online interfaces (which must be designed in a way that does not deceive or manipulate users through so-called “dark patterns”).
The two virtual stores must also report to Brussels on the protection of minors, transparency of recommendation systems, traceability of merchants and compliance by design, meaning that “providers of online platforms that allow consumers to enter into remote contracts with merchants do their best.” attempt to assess whether such traders have provided information […] before allowing them to offer their products or services on these platforms.”
