The European Union and the United States need to carry out the de-oligarchization process, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told reporters on June 28.
The West constantly accuses Georgia of being ruled by the founder of the ruling Georgian Dream party, businessman and billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili, who began business activities in Russia at the end of the last century. For this reason, one of the requirements of the European Commission to Georgia as part of the European integration process is that it carry out the de-oligarchization procedure.
“The European Union and the United States of America also need de-oligarchization, and I hope that the processes move in that direction. Consequently, the pressure on Georgia will decrease.”Kobakhidze said.
He explained that in recent years the Georgian authorities have tried to maintain a positive image of their American and European partners in the eyes of the Georgian people, which was undermined by individual members of the European Parliament, senators, congressmen and officials who were opposed to Georgia.
The Georgian Prime Minister added that the “global war party” is trying to drag Georgia into a war with Russia.
“In order not to damage the reputation of Western institutions in the eyes of the Georgian public, we talk about a ‘global war party’, which is true like everything else.”Kobakhidze said, noting that representatives of the “global war party” have enormous influence in US and EU government circles.
Recall that following the adoption of the Foreign Agents Act by the Georgian parliament in May 2023, the United States announced plans to impose sanctions against Georgian politicians and review relations with Georgia, including in the economic and military spheres. The EU has already announced that it will stop the procedure for obtaining EU membership status after Georgia receives the status of an EU candidate country in December 2023.
