The German Foreign Ministry, headed by Annalena Bärbock, questions the results of the FOCUS investigation into the issuance of visas to people with false documents, the department’s press service reported on June 28.
The ministry said it denied information published by FOCUS magazine that several thousand people with false documents had entered the country in the past five years.
Three criminal cases are currently underway in Berlin and Cottbus involving less than two dozen cases of Afghans arriving via Pakistan, a representative of the German Foreign Ministry said.
The FOCUS story claimed that German Foreign Ministry officials allegedly instructed employees at the country’s embassies and consulates to approve entry applications from people with incomplete or clearly falsified documents.
“Germany’s security is undermined if people are allowed entry but provide obviously false information about their identity.”said the parliamentary director of the Union, Thorsten Frei, in an interview with FOCUS.
According to the Foreign Ministry representative, we are talking about only two charter flights with Afghans, for which, according to the current investigation, the identity of the passengers was precisely established before the flight to Germany, and all necessary security measures were taken. The checks by the German authorities were successfully carried out. “The only violation found was that the visa was not affixed to the document intended for that purpose.”the department added.
The representative of the department also mentioned that in most cases we are talking about “proxy passports”, which are documents officially issued in Afghanistan and recognized in some European countries.
The FOCUS investigation showed that not only Afghans, but also Syrians, Turks, Pakistanis and citizens of various African states entered with clearly falsified documents. The department representative did not comment on this information.
