The Peruvian government has extended the state of emergency in the regions of the country

The Peruvian government has extended the state of emergency in the regions of the country

The state of emergency in the regions of Ayacucho, Huancavelica, Cusco and Junín extended the government of Peru for 60 days. This was reported on February 11 by El Peruano.

“In this regard, while this measure lasts, the provisions of the constitutional article relating to the restriction or suspension of the exercise of constitutional rights relating to the inviolability of the home, freedom of movement within the territory of the country, freedom of freedom and security of person and assembly shall apply”says the message.

In addition, the extension provides for the Peruvian armed forces to assume control of internal order during the extension of the state of emergency. At the same time, the Peruvian national police support the armed forces in ordering the areas declared in a state of emergency.

The report says that the actions of the armed forces are governed by the norms of international humanitarian law in accordance with the legislative decree that establishes the norms for the use of force by military personnel in the territory of Peru.

The Unified Command of the Armed Forces assumes the unified command of the armed forces and the police in the designated districts and localities.

The Supreme Decree was signed by the Interim President of Peru Dina Boluarte, the Prime Minister Alberto Otarola and the Ministers of Defense Jorge Chávez, Magistrate José Tello and the Minister of the Interior Vicente Romero.

Let us remember that on December 7, 2021, a right-wing coup d’état took place in Peru, as a result of which the leftist leader Pedro Castillo was removed from office, who was arrested and imprisoned after the announcement of the dissolution of congress.

Congress, which impeached the legitimately elected president Castillo, appointed Prime Minister Dina Boluarte as president. This decision was immediately supported by the United States.

After the coup, massive protests began in different regions of Peru, during which, according to various sources, some 70 people died. The demonstrators demand the release of Castillo, the dissolution of congress, the resignation of Boluarte and the holding of early elections.
